Tabby described silk moiré before striped cats. Proofs exploring interference figures generated by the adjustable registration chases of the Modular System formed the original film-frames: the Red Black Backswing sequence is shown above. Experimental proofs that also form film sequences continue to identify printable editions, often where every print is different. The proofs develop ideas and encourage experiment: a proof may not be an editable print, but flashes by in a film. In Tabby Twenty Nines there are many print-reject frames that are effective in the film, while the eponymous print series is a variable edition of only 29 prints. Tabby Twnety Nines no.5 is on the left and no.12 is on the New Work page along with film-frame proofs that form paper editions.
