Travelling for bright light is important. The Outback Australia prints were made after several journeys filling sketchbooks. Traditional wood engraving techniques are used on polymer to interpret the effect of glittering outback light on boulders, trees, floodbeds and dirt. Some are printed in black ink, but many are colour prints, where three blocks are engraved and printed together. Edtions of 30 to 75.Print sizes aproximately 25 sq. inches. Prices start at £190.00.

HOW THE COLOUR ENGRAVINGS ARE MADE

The colour wood engraving Afternoon, Bollards Lagoon is shown below with the original watercolour-pencil sketch and the three polymer blocks that were engraved for the print. The three inks are hand-rolled while listening carefully for the right amount of ink hiss, especially the yellow. There is a lot of proofing and many rejects before achieving the definitive proof.
